Bass of the Week: Bayou Basses The Dreamer

Bayou Basses posted their latest build recently. Inspired by the lyrics of John Lennon, The Dreamer is described as a departure from the company’s previous builds.
“‘The Dreamer’ is a 34-inch scale fretless electric upright bass,” luthier Bill Kretzer explains. “The body and neck are made from Sapele and White Ash and features a Grenadillo fingerboard. The bridge is also Sapele, and the saddle and nut are made of Genadillo.”
The body’s unique pattern takes its cues from Lennon’s “Imagine,” especially the line about the world living as one.
“The alternating colors represent our world community, made up of different races, nationalities, political ideologies, and faiths,” the builder says. “The shape of the body is reaching up, reminding us that we have the power to be the best that we can be and to never stop trying.”
Kretzer also fitted The Dreamer with a piezo pickup under the bridge with a pre-amp built into the back of the bass. A heavy-duty stand allows for adjusting the height and tilt of the bass.
