Dutch Double Bass Festival Set for October 13-14

Dutch Double Bass Festival 2023

The fourth edition of the Dutch Double Bass Festival has been announced, and this year will feature some of the world’s best bassists on both double bass and electric bass. Held on October 13th and 14th in Rotterdam in The Netherlands, the weekend will feature 18 acts with a wide array of styles.

“From classical to jazz, world, and pop, as the world’s only festival programmed around the bass and aimed at a broad audience, Dutch Double Bass Festival shows what exactly is so special about the instrument,” a press release states. “With orchestras and soloists, bands; with double bass, bass guitar, and viola da gamba. As well as live music also ‘Ateliers in Residence’ – expositions by instrument makers, a bass cinema and a photo exhibition by artist Pim van der Zwaan.”

The festival’s headliners include Dirty Loops (featuring the inimitable Henrik Linder), Adam Ben Ezra, Renaud Garcia-Fons, Brady Watt, and the Dutch Double Bass Fest founder James Oesi, who will be performing a program of music by African composers. He’ll also be premiering a new double bass concerto written by Derrick Hodge. Other performers include Teun Cremers, Mark Haanstra, Dominik Wagner, Roman Patkoló, Laura Nygren, Dario Calderone, and Robert Landfermann.
