Peter Gabriel Releases “i/o” with Tony Levin on Bass

At long last, Peter Gabriel’s i/o is available. A decade in the making, Gabriel has been drip-feeding fans new singles during full moons.

“After a years-worth of full moon releases, I’m very happy to see all these new songs back together on the good ship i/o and ready for their journey out into the world,” the fabled songwriter shared.

The 12 songs were recorded at Real World Studios and Gabriel’s home studio with his inner circle of longtime collaborators. That includes guitarist David Rhodes, drummer Manu Katché, and bassist Tony Levin, who has been working with the singer since 1976 and famously played on the smash hit “Sledgehammer.” Further contributions come from Brian Eno, Richard Russell, Tom Cawley, Josh Shpak, Paolo Fresu, Linnea Olsson, Don E., and more.

i/o was released with three separate mixes – Dark-Side, Bright-Side, and In-Side – that offer slightly different takes on the songs. Check out Levin’s bass work on the Dark-Side mix of “Live and Let Live”:
