Dominique Di Piazza Publishes “The Ultimate Right Hand Technique Book”
French bass virtuoso Dominique Di Piazza has many incredible aspects to his playing, but specifically his right hand technique is astounding. Now the secrets of his style have been revealed in a new instructional book called The Ultimate Right Hand Technique Book. Written with fellow bassist Marcelo Córdova, the 173-page book is loaded with exercises to build your two, three, and four-finger technique as well as examples of how to implement them via transcriptions and etudes.
After studying the general finger patterns, the book has chapters on raking and legato, five-note groups, and applications in a dorian modal context.
Hadrien Feraud gave a testimonial about Di Piazza and the new book: “Dominique is a real hero and embodies perfectly what playing the ‘Bass guitar’ means,” he wrote. “Hence his unprecedented chordal works and finger techniques which factually paved the way decades ago for what modern jazz bass playing has become today. He is a personal major influence of mine and so he is to actually many other of your favorite modern bassists and I highly recommend this book to anyone keen on bettering their playing one way or another. Get hip!”
