Pigtronix Now Shipping Philosopher’s Tone 2 Pedal

Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone 2 Pedal

Pigtronix has launched the Philosopher’s Tone 2, which expands on the original optical compressor’s design with a footswitchable Grit.

“Featuring a refined implementation of the overdrive circuit first heard in the limited-edition Gold version of this iconic compressor pedal, the unique germanium distortion found in the Philosopher’s Tone 2 delivers smooth top end and rich midrange response, tailored to perfectly match the characteristics of the optical sustainer driving it,” the company says.

The Philosopher’s Tone 2 has volume and sustain controls as well as a parallel clean blend knob for retaining your tone with the compressor/sustainer effect while the Grit circuit is bypassed. Pigtronix says mixing the signals restores attack and gives clean settings with extreme sustain. When the Grit circuit is activated, the Blend knob is bypassed to impart the distortion’s color in both Germanium and Silicon modes.

Finally, the Philosopher’s Tone 2 has true-bypass switching and internal 18-volt power rails for extended headroom that they say is beneficial for active basses as well as hot pickups, synthesizers, and line-level sources. It still runs on 9-volt DC.

The Pigtronix Philosopher’s Tone 2 is available now for $199.

Pigtronix Philosopher’s Tone 2 Pedal Features:
