Bootsy Collins Announces New Album

Bootsy Collins

Bootsy Collins has announced a new solo album called Album of the Year #1 Funkateer, which will mark the funk legend’s 23rd studio record. The effort is full of guest stars, including Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Dave Stewart, October London, Fantaazma, and more.

Bootsy Collins: Album of the Year #1 Funkateer“When I start on a project now, it’s about getting the energy from people around me,” Collins explains. “Then I proceed to gather transmissions from the universe to know what to talk about. It’s important to me to see who the universe brings to me, and I’ve been really blessed that every time I want to do a new record, I get these incredible musicians around me, right on time. That’s what this album helps me do—Transmitting & receiving with different musicians and artists that have the same desire I had when I was their age.”

Collins also collaborates with some musicians his own age. The track “The JB’s Tribute” features fellow James Brown alumni Fred Wesley and the late Clyde Stubblefield and John (Jabo) Starks.

The funkateer announced the album by premiering the title track on Rolling Stone. The song is a throwback to his vintage funk style and has shades of Parliament-Funkadelic and Bootsy’s Rubber Band.

“I wanted to give the people what they wanted back in the Seventies: a sense of hope, joy and freedom,” he told Rolling Stone.

Album of the Year #1 Funkateer will be out on October 25th.
