Bass of the Week: Inside the “SUPERFRO” – A MonoNeon-Inspired Custom LEH Guitars Offset 5

LEH Guitars Offset 5 SUPERFRO Bass

We’ve shared a few LEH Guitars models over the years, but this one really stands out. This colorful Offset 5 “SUPERFRO” was built for Frowin Ickler, who wanted an instrument with specs based on the Fender MonoNeon signature bass that “goes further in quality, playability, handling, and versatility.”

“What a dream come true instrument!” Ickler shares.

The SUPERFRO has a chambered alder body, a quartersawn maple neck, and a roasted maple fretboard. Luthier Ellis Hahn fit the fingerboard with black block inlays and Luminlay side dots to navigate the board in the dark.

The pickups are a pair of Nordstrand BigRigs in a ’60s JB position. Each has a mini-switch to toggle between parallel or series mode. As with the Offset’s unique electronics, it has a Nordstrand three-band Boost-only EQ controlled with LEH faders. Another mini-switch sets the frequency of the midrange. Finally, the hardware includes a Gotoh 510 bridge, Hipshot Ultralite tuners, and black Dunlop strap locks.
