Fender and Khruangbin’s Laura Lee Collaborate on Stylish Limited Edition Jazz Bass

Khruangbin has been leading the charge on groove-based music for the past decade with bassist Laura Lee powering the trio’s warm sound. The band has just teamed up with Fender for their first-ever line of signature instruments. Both Lee and guitarist Mark Speer are getting artist instruments simultaneously, which is another first in Fender’s 80-year history.
“Laura Lee’s warm, pulsing, and inventive basslines have propelled Khruangbin albums into the Top 40 in the U.S. and even higher around the world,” Fender writes. “Armed with a Jazz Bass, her unique playing style mixes classic-era basslines with funk, soul, country, and surf rock to create something completely distinctive and raw.”
The Fender Limited Edition Laura Lee Jazz Bass features an alder body finished in a classic Vintage White, complemented by chrome details. Its maple neck is fitted with a rosewood fingerboard and 20 frets. One aspect that sets it apart from other Jazz Bass models is that it is loaded with DiMarzio Ultra Jazz pickups, which Fender describes as delivering “deep lows, percussive highs and rich harmonic overtones.” Other features include a custom “U”-shape neck, a tug bar, vintage-style concentric knobs, and vintage-style tuners. Aside from all her aesthetic choices, Lee’s personal touch is added with her signature on the back of the headstock.
“A lot of the features on my bass look vintage, but they function in a modern way. We’ve been trying to cultivate our music to feel classic and timeless, really. To me, the look and feel of this instrument is the same — it just sounds better the more you play it,” she says.
The Fender Limited Edition Laura Lee Jazz Bass will be shipping soon with a street price of $1,499.99.
