Watch: Geddy Lee’s Fret‑Flyin’ “Tom Sawyer” Rush Performance at Montreal Forum from 1981

Here’s a killer snapshot of Rush on the Moving Pictures tour with a live take of “Tom Sawyer” from the Montreal Forum in 1981. Geddy Lee is locked in on bass while juggling keys and vocals, with that unmistakable Rickenbacker tone cutting through the mix.

The band is sharp and fluid, with Neil Peart delivering every hit with surgical power and Alex Lifeson weaving in those angular guitar lines. But it’s Geddy who keeps it grounded and wild at the same time.

This isn’t a polished promo. It’s the real thing. A live cut that still punches all these years later. Turn it up and take it in.

  1. Simply, the best three man band of all time not to mention my favorite band of all time. Neil Kurt, Alex Larson Getty Lee, exactly in that order are the best to the best in their skill. Kaylee is a basis, Alex life as a lead guitarist and of course, the great Neil percussion drummer doesn’t get no better than these three guys phenomenal. Thank you for your services for so many years and a beautiful music that you’ve produced Same respectfully always Tony , Nunes

I’ve played bass 50 something years. I’ve sang lead 50 something years. I’ve played synths 50 something years. I’ve played bass and sang lead. But…never…I’ve called Rush Alien rock for 50 something years because not one band yet single performer writer even dares come close to Gary and the band. Never will anyone.
