MonoNeon Drops a Colorful Bomb of Groove at Blue Note Tokyo

MonoNeon returned to Blue Note Tokyo earlier this year and brought the house down with his live version of “Jelly Roll.” The performance was captured on video and serves as another reminder of why he continues to turn heads in the bass world.

The song, which is part of his solo catalog, takes on a new energy in this live setting. It’s loose and funky with just the right amount of chaos. MonoNeon mixes deep pocket grooves with slippery runs and unexpected phrasing, keeping things playful while still totally locked in.

As always, he’s playing his upside-down bass with that signature tone and feel. He leans into every note with style, tossing in microtonal slides, rhythmic stabs, and space where you don’t expect it. It’s weird and beautiful and very MonoNeon.
