It’s time for our annual New Year’s Day tradition of listing the 10 most popular bassists from the past year. Kicking it off at #10 is a mainstay of our yearly top ten: Victor Wooten.
The bass virtuoso and philosopher had an extremely busy year. He was on the road with his brothers as well as Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, with whom he just wrapped up a holiday tour.
His near-consistent performance schedule is remarkable, given his battle with Focal Dystonia, a neurological disorder that causes involuntary muscle contractions. Wooten spoke about the matter in an interview with Charles Berthoud that enlightened readers.
