Beatles fans have gotten a new perspective on the band over the past few years with revealing documentaries such as Get Back, The Beatles Anthology, and Eight Days a Week. A new documentary, however, focuses on bassist Paul McCartney‘s life and career in the aftermath of the Fab Four’s breakup.

Man on the Run, now streaming on Amazon Prime, examines Macca’s life in the 1970s, between the end of the Beatles and the assassination of John Lennon. It’s directed by Morgan Neville, who previously won an Oscar for his documentary on backup singers called 20 Feet from Stardom. The director conducted extensive new interviews with McCartney, which, combined with never-before-seen archival footage, offer a fresh look at a pivotal time in his life.

Neville only uses the audio from his new interviews with McCartney, instead only using vintage footage. This takes the viewer back in time to really put them into spirit of the times.

“It’s crazy; like a period of my life flashing before my eyes,” McCartney states in a Q&A on his website. “It’s wonderful because it’s full of different emotions and facets. One of the big things for me is seeing so much of Linda, which is great for me and the kids.”

The film also dives into McCartney’s personal relationship with Lennon during the time, as they traded barbs through song. “We were just growing apart, really,” he says. “We’d had arguments and all of that, but we’d loved each other all our lives.”

Man on the Run is streaming now on Amazon Prime Video.
