Gorillaz Make Their SNL Debut with a Two-Song Set: “Clint Eastwood” and “The Moon Cave,” Featuring Bassist Seye Adelekan

Gorillaz made their debut on Saturday Night Live this weekend, delivering a two song set that pulled together several corners of their musical universe.

The band opened with “Clint Eastwood,” joined by the track’s original guest, Del the Funky Homosapien, before shifting into “The Moon Cave,” a newer cut from the album The Mountain. That performance brought an eclectic lineup to the stage, including vocalist Asha Puthli, rapper Black Thought, and sitar master Anoushka Shankar.

Over here at No Treble, we were focused on the low end and longtime Gorillaz touring bassist Seye Adelekan. Adelekan kept things deep in the pocket throughout the set, playing a Baum four string bass through an Ampeg rig. His groove and stage presence fit perfectly with the layered arrangement and the rotating cast of collaborators on stage.

If you follow the Gorillaz live shows, you know the project has always been about bringing different musical worlds together, and this appearance leaned into that spirit. Hip hop, psychedelic pop, and Indian classical textures all collided in a way that felt very much like Gorillaz.

It was also good timing for fans as we recently shared the news that Gorillaz will be heading out on a North American tour later this year, so this SNL performance felt like a nice preview of what that live band can do.  CHECK TOUR DATES HERE.
