Squier’s New Paranormal Precision Bass Thinline SJ Breaks the P-Bass Formula
Fender has expanded the Squier Paranormal series with several new instruments, including the Paranormal Precision Bass Thinline SJ. The intriguing model reimagines the original Fender bass guitar as a semi-hollow design with an “unconventional” SJ pickup combination of a Fender-Designed alnico single-coil ’51 P Bass pickup in the neck position paired with a Fender-Designed alnico single-coil Jazz Bass pickup at the bridge.
“Connected through a 3-way blade switch, this unique pairing delivers everything from the deep, thumping warmth of the original Precision Bass to the focused, growling bite of a Jazz Bass, and everywhere in between,” Fender states. “The thinline semi-hollow body construction adds natural acoustic resonance and reduced weight for enhanced playability.”
The Thinline SJ comes in three finishes: Vintage White, 3-Color Sunburst, and Olive. Each bass is built with a nyatoh body and maple neck. The Olive and Subnurst basses have an Indian Laurel fingerboard, while the White has a maple one. Other features include a “C”-shaped neck profile, a 4-saddle vintage-style bridge with slotted barrel saddles, and vintage-style open-gear tuners.

The Paranormals are the best product class Fender has…in the sense that they do indeed offer ways for Fender to iterate while still staying “Fender”.
This particular one is not my cup of tea, but fender can do and does these iterations in a way that other companies can’t quite match in senseability. They do absolutely have graphic designers there with skill above most manufacturers.
1)Get rid of this CEO. He’s going to kill any goodwill Fender has left chasing IP defense. His Scottsdale vibe is through the roof. I’m surprised he’s not posting pictures of his H3.
2)make an evil twin Fender sub-brand of Paranormal, just like Squier. dark black website. Everything is Reverso. All instrument pics are in left handed versions, only people “in the know” will understand the instruments come default right handed. Fill out the paranormal line. Change them as much as you want/have resources for nothing is sacred, the magic is the niche production runs. Show the world offshore production is and can be as good as American, and then take the best and make them custom shop options.
I’ll send my invoice later today, my time came to about 30 minutes on this but I only do hour increments, so that’s $178,000.
