Eric Gales, Dennis Chambers, and Billy Sheehan Form New Power Trio GCS
Here’s some mind-blowing news for you: Eric Gales, Dennis Chambers, and Billy Sheehan are teaming up for a supergroup power trio called GCS. Although details are still emerging, we’ve found their initial tour dates.
GCS will hit the road starting October 29th in Hopewell, Virginia at the Beacon Theatre. They’ll head north into Maryland and then to Connecticut before sweeping from the Mid-Atlantic into the Midwest. According to Chambers’ website, the two-week run will conclude on November 15th at Ludlow Garage in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Each member of GCS is a master of their instrument and has performed at the highest levels in genres from blues to jazz fusion to rock. Though they come from different backgrounds, the trio is united in their versatility and musicality.
“Together, they form a rare lineup where every player can lead, listen, and push the music into new territory,” a gig description explains. “The sound of GCS won’t be confined to one category. It will draw from the full range of their musical lives, moving from heavy blues and hard rock to deep funk, soul, and jazz fusion, with room for fearless improvisation and the kind of live interplay that only players of this caliber can deliver. Three legends, three unmistakable musical forces, one stage.”
Sheehan and Chambers have a long history of playing together in the band Niacin with keyboardist John Novello. In a 2013 interview with For Bass Players Only, the bassist named Chambers as his favorite drummer.
“To me, he’s the greatest musician I know on any instrument,” he said. “I’m a better bass player because of Dennis Chambers, that’s for sure. The world is a better place because of Dennis Chambers.”
