Fender Adds Lake Placid Blue to the American Vintage II ’66 Jazz Bass

Fender has slightly updated its American Vintage II series with a set of new colors for 2026, including one for the American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass. The model now comes in Lake Placid Blue in addition to its previous colorways: Sea Foam Green, 3-Color Sunburst, and Olympic White.
Fender began using Lake Placid Blue in late 1959 after adapting it from GM’s automotive paint catalog. It became a standardized color in the company’s first formal custom-color chart in 1960.
The new color does not alter any other of the bass’s specs, which are period-correct. That includes a nitrocellulose finish, a vintage-style neck profile, heirloom-quality year-specific pickups, and more.
Hear more about the model in Fender’s demo video:
Although the American Vintage II 1966 Jazz Bass comes in right- and left-handed versions, the Lake Placid Blue finish is only offered on the right-handed version. It is available now for $2,699.
