Watch Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Stewart Copeland Play “New World Man”
Yesterday we shared footage of Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson jamming with Tool drummer Danny Carey for the new Neil Peart documentary, Neil Peart: No One’s Disciple. Today we get another one and this time Stewart Copeland is behind the kit for “New World Man.”
Copeland feels like a perfect fit for this tune. Rush always had plenty of reggae and new wave influence in their sound, and “New World Man” gives the Police drummer a lot of room to bring his own personality to it.
What I love about this performance is that Copeland never sounds like he is trying to imitate Neil Peart. He absolutely captures the spirit and energy of the original part but you can hear Stewart Copeland all over it. The hi hat work, the accents and that unmistakable push are pure Copeland.
Between this and yesterday’s Danny Carey performance, these sessions are quickly becoming one of my favorite parts of the documentary.
