Here’s a bassist who never fails to impress me. Federico Malaman sent in this video of his solo bass version of Sting’s “Seven Days.” After playing a tasty arrangement of the melody, Malaman sets up a loop and lets loose with some soulful soloing.

During the 2014 Musikmesse show in Frankfurt, two remarkable bassists – who have wowed us all with their solo performances – got together to perform one iconic song. Those bassists are Victor Wooten and Federico Malaman. The tune is Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely.”

The Kala U-Basses are a blast to play, but Ben Rouse takes things up a notch with his performance of Bach’s “Cello Suite No.1 – Prelude”. Ben shared this video with us and said he loves how the tune sounds on the U-Bass, which he’s running through a Fishman Loudbox mini acoustic amp.

For Zander Zon’s 50th solo bass video, he went back to one of his favorite movies for inspiration. Zander found the soundtrack for Braveheart to be “amazingly beautiful music”, and arranged the main theme for solo bass. For this arrangement, his bass is tuned B, Eb, Db, Gb.
