On May 12, 2009, the White House held the “Unplugged Poetry Jam”, and bassist Esperanza Spalding was one of the featured performers. Esperanza is obviously becoming a White House favorite. She took the stage at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony this morning, and will perform a concert at the ceremony tomorrow. Here’s Esperanza performing “Tell Him”:

Esperanza Spalding will be joining legendary jazz pianist McCoy Tyner, along with Ravi Coltrane and Francisco Mela for a run of six nights, including New Years Eve, at Yoshi’s in Oakland. Bassist Esperanza Spalding performed at the White House for the Obama family in early 2009, celebrating the music of Stevie Wonder. This video clip includes her performance of “Overjoyed”. Last summer, Esperanza Spalding made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, performing “I Know You Know”, from her Esperanza CD. Esperanza is playing a Doolin Custom Acoustic bass. Enjoy!
