Whenever I spot a video with Mohini Dey, I stop what I’m doing, and I’m never disappointed. But this one might be my favorite so far. Dey grooves hard and takes a killer solo on “Nirvana,” with Siddharth Nagarajan and U.Rajesh.

I’ve shared music by Abhijith P S Nair and his band before, and every time I find another video by them, I’m completely blown away yet again. “Mahaganapathim” features stunning musicianship from the Indian Fusion group, which includes Mohini Dey on bass.

Guitarist Chandresh Kudwa’s “Free Spirit” is a pretty amazing instrumental rock record, which features bassist Mohini Dey and drummer Gino Banks. “Disco Chicken”, the album’s second track, is a fun ride.

During the 2019 NAMM show, there was an epic jam at the Baked Potato Jazz Club in Studio City, California. Guitarist Alex Skolnick, cellist Tina Guo, along with bassists Mohini Dey and Stuart Hamm, took the stage and lit it up.

Mohini Dey: Live Solo at Lugano Jazz Festival
Mohini Dey treated the audience to a live solo at the Lugano Jazz Festival back in July. The bassist was there performing with Ekalavya. Thankfully, cameras were rolling.
Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava Live: Maha Ganapathim
This is some seriously great music right here. This clip comes from the World Fusion Concert on Day 7 of the 53rd Bengaluru Ganesh Utsava. Mohini Dey is on bass, along with U Rajesh on mandolin, Bala Bhaskar on violin, Arun Kumar on drums, and Giridhar Udupa on Ghatam. I’m blown away.

Mohini Dey is such a talent, and I’m always on the lookout for videos featuring this exciting bassist. Here’s a clip from the Garana Jazz Festival earlier this month which features Mohini alongside violinist Abhijith P S Nair, guitarist Sandeep Mohan, keyboardist Joe Johnson, and drummer Arun Roop in their performance of “Sa Ma Ga Pa.”
Mohini Dey & Steve Vai: Live
Last year, Steve Vai’s band was one of the headlining acts at NH7 Shillong 2017, India’s largest multi-genre music festival. Vai brought on a special guest Mohini Dey during the show, who lived up to the spotlight in this performance. Vai’s intro says it all.
