Jazz saxophonist Kamasi Washington has returned with his fifth studio album, “Fearless Movement,” with Thundercat, Miles Mosley, and Ben Williams on bass.

Gov’t Mule bassist Kevin Scott’s discography is a long list that includes albums with John McLaughlin, Jimmy Harring, Gary Husband, FORQ, Donny McCaslin, Col Bruce Hampton, and many more. However, he’s just released his first album as a leader with the self-titled debut from WAXpaper.

The upright bass gets a reputation for simplicity, especially in bluegrass and folk music. However, Nate Sabat has put the instrument in the spotlight on his new album, “Bass Fiddler.”

Blu DeTiger grew her audience on TikTok with killer covers and then her own original songs. Though the platform is based on brevity, DeTiger has been getting deeper into long form releases. Now, she’s dropped her debut full-length studio album, “All I Ever Want Is Everything.”

Scott LaFaro was only 25 when he tragically died in a car accident in 1961, but the body of work he left changed jazz bass playing for good. He influenced the majority of today’s best bassists. That includes Brian Bromberg, who has just released a trio album in his honor.
