Christine McVie’s “Songbird” is one of my all-time favorite songs. Karl Clews pays tribute to McVie, who passed away on November 30th, with this beautiful all-bass arrangement.

Wayne Shorter shared this video recently, and it brought back a lot of great memories. Weather Report (with Victor Bailey) took the stage on September 27, 1984, in Tokyo. Here’s the band performing Zawinul’s “Where The Moon Goes.”

Scary Pockets was joined by guest vocalist Hunter Elizabeth and guitarist Joe Bonamassa for this excellent cover of Prince’s “How Come U Don’t Call Me Anymore.” Calvin Turner’s smooth bass lines back the tune perfectly.

On October 20, 1995, Steely Dan appeared on The Late Show. Here’s a great video by Don Giller with all the music from that episode. In the second part, you can see the band performing “Josie,” with Tom Barney on bass and Peter Erskine on drums.

“Existential Paranoia” may be the debut LP from progressive guitarist Jan Rivera, but it’s far from a novice effort. In this clip, he’s joined by Jordan Rudess, Marco Minnemann, and Mohini Dey for “Can’t Fight Who You Are.”

Juna Serita recently shared a video from Juna’s Session, and it is funky. Her band takes on the Herbie Hancock tune, “Hang Up Your Hang Ups.”

YYNOT took the stage at the Coach House and rocked the house. In this clip from the show, the band performs Rush’s “What You’re Doing.” The mix is absolutely incredible, and Tim Starace is coming through loud and clear.

Fleetwood Mac’s “Rumours” is the first record I remember loving, and my favorite tracks were the ones Christine McVie wrote. I was devastated to hear of her passing on Wednesday. Here’s the band in 1977 performing McVie’s “You Make Loving Fun.”

We can always count on Rick Suchow to deliver the goods. In honor of Jaco Pastorius’s birthday today, Rick has made available a clip he recorded of Jaco’s quintet performing “Invitation” at Seventh Avenue South in April 1981. The lineup included Michael Brecker and Peter Erskine.

Brandon Shaw has a cool YouTube channel called Digging The Greats, and he just shared a fun video for bassists. He plays through eight songs that make for good lines for soundcheck, including deeper cuts.

Back in the 80s, I listened to a lot of Biréli Lagrène’s music. I was always blown away by his guitar skills and learned years later that he has some serious chops on bass too. Here’s a clip with Lagrène improvising to “So What” on bass.

Charles Berthoud is back with a new jaw-dropping video, and in this one, he turned “Master of Puppets” into a solo slap bass arrangement.
