Here’s a great fan shot video of Tal Wilkenfeld taking a solo during a Jeff Beck concert. Eventually, Beck joins in to help out with the low end… on the same bass. Pretty cool. This leads into a performance of Beck’s “Blue Wind”, from the Wired album.

Talk about diversity! Bryan Beller plays bass for the cartoon band Dethklok, but when he’s not melting faces he hits the road with wife Kira Small to play house shows. This particular performance was recorded for the program “The Smoking Lounge” at the Magnolia Avenue KDHX studio in St. Louis, MO.

Here’s a clip of the song “Viridian” from Between the Buried and Me’s Colors Live DVD. The song is based around the beautiful bass melody laid out by Dan Briggs.

Pianist Oscar Peterson was known for keeping good company in bassists, and Dave Young is no exception. “Nigerian Marketplace” first appeared on Peterson’s featuring bass giant Niels Hennig Orsted-Pederson, but here Peterson and Young are joined by guitarist Joe Pass and drummer Martin Drew for a beautiful and grooving rendition of the tune.

Jennifer Young plays a beautiful melody in this duet with guitarist Travis Larson. The song, “Good and the Bad,” comes from Larson’s 2005 album, Rate of Change.

Lucio Marrone, a bassist from Argentina sent in this video, featuring his arrangement of a popular Argentinian tune, “11 and 6”, by Fito Paez. Lucio performs his all bass arrangement on both fretted and fretless basses.

Bootsy Collins sent us this video, saying “see 18 yr old Bootsy with James Brown”. The video was shot in April 1971, live in Bologna, Italy.

Recorded live at the Hammersmith Odeon in London in 1982, here’s the “We Want Miles” line-up of Miles Davis’ band, including Marcus Miller on bass, Mike Stern on guitar, Bill Evans on sax, Al Foster on drums and Mino Cinelu on percussion.

In this video, electric bassist Larry Wilson plays his rendition of “Voodoo Child” by Jimi Hendrix. The best part of this video is that Wilson is playing in the New York Subway System, demonstrating that good music can happen anywhere.

In response to the NPR Bass Solo contest, bassist Blake Branch submitted his arrangement of “Raspberry Heaven” by Masumi It? and Y?ko Ueno. The tune comes from the anime series “Azumanga Daioh”. Thanks to Alex Kalicinski for sharing this video with us.
