Jay Leonhart: Bass Aboard a Plane
Dr. D recently covered the painful topic of flying with a bass. Here’s bassist Jay Leonhart performing his own musical take on the subject. This comes from Leonhart’s one man show, .
Marcus Miller and Dennis Chambers: Scoop/Fatback Groove Mix
This is incredible! Bassist Robin Koerts took Marcus Miller‘s video performance of “Scoop” and mixed it with Dennis Chambers’ video performance of “The Fatback Groove”. The only thing better would be if they actually performed this together.
Hadrien Feraud Band: Rumeurs
Hadrien Feraud has a knack for producing some jaw dropping bass lines and live performances, and this one is no exception. Performing “Rumeurs” from his self-titled album, , Feraud leads his band featuring Eric Moore on drums, Michael Lecoq on keyboards and Renaud Gensane on trumpet. Thanks to our Facebook friend Charles Robitaille for sharing this video with us!

Paul Simon: Diamonds On the Soles of Her Shoes (Live, 1987 with Bakithi Kumalo)
Checking out videos featuring bassist Bakithi Kumalo this morning, I ran into this old favorite from Paul Simon’s Graceland concert in South Africa in 1987. Kumalo’s fretless work on this and the rest of the performance is so awesome, even 24 years later.
Christian McBride: “Havona” Solo on Electric Bass
Christian McBride is one of those rare bassists who switch from upright to electric and back with ease. We more frequently see (and feature) him playing upright, but this one was too fun to pass up. Here’s a fan shot video of McBride taking a solo break to Jaco Pastorius’ “Havona”.
Wally Voss: Live Bass Solo (1980’s)
Joseph Garcia sent in this video of bassist Wally Voss, a shredding master who spent time in the ’80s touring with Yngwie Malmsteen. Here is a face-melting solo he played with the band Front Runner, before joining Malmsteen. “This is a must-see for fans of Cliff Burton and Billy Sheehan,” Garcia wrote, and we couldn’t agree more!
Daniel Ziegler: Slow Groove
We last featured bassist Daniel Ziegler and his Jonas Hellborg-inspired bass arrangement of “Little Wing”. This time, Daniel performs his unique take on Victor Wooten’s “Slow Groove”.
Nicolas Dubouchet: “Big Noise From Winnetka” Slap Bass
Here’s bassist Nicolas Dubouchet, jamming around the tune “Big Noise From Winnetka” on French TV.
Mina Burnside: 14 Year Old Bassist Tackle’s Jaco Pastorius’ “Portrait of Tracy”
Mina Burnside is a 14 year old bassist from Nashville who began playing three and a half years ago. In this clip, she takes on a monster of a bass tune: Jaco Pastorius’ “Portrait of Tracy”. We love seeing (and sharing!) the many young players who demonstrate their dedication and willingness to tackle some tough tunes and show the world....
