Live on Danish TV in 1970, Johnny Winter performs with bassist Tommy Shannon and Uncle John Turner on drums. It isn’t flashy, but Shannon is just a blues groovin’ machine.

Bassist Justin Raines is bringing it in this improv performance during a past NAMM event, performing on an MTD bass. Raines has played for Bobby Perry and RAIN, JoJo, GospelChops, and others.

Oh yeah! Some vintage Stanley Clarke for you today, from a 1977 performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival. Hot Fun!

Here’s bassist / one man band / human sound system Doug Wimbish taking a live solo, “Quasimodo”. The performance took place at Paradiso in Amsterdam in 1999, and filmed for the TV program “Moondive”, which also included Peter van Bergen (saxophone), Huib Emmer (electronics/guitar), Stefan Robbers (electronics), Gerard Bouwhuis (piano) and Alison Goldfrapp (vocals).

Last week, we featured a video with Steve Gadd and Will Lee. This time around, Gadd is playing with Marcus Miller, who takes an extended solo in this clip. The performance is from Legends: Live at Montreux 1997, and also features Eric Clapton, Joe Sample and David Sanborn.

This video isn’t likely new for many of us, but always nice to watch… Jaco Pastorius and his Word of Mouth band performing “Three Views of a Secret” live in Japan in 1982. As time goes on, this is still one of my favorite compositions, if not the favorite. Happy Sunday.

Charnett Moffett lays down more of a running bass line behind tapping virtuoso Stanley Jordan before showing off his own finger-busting solo on the jazz standard “Autumn Leaves”.

Another great bass/drum duo performance… this time by Victor Wooten and Steve Smith. The performance took place at the Drummers Collective in November, 2002. Smith admits the two only had five minutes to prepare for the performance. Doesn’t seem fair. Part 1: Part 2:
