Reader Spotlight: Maurizio Rolli
Meet Maurizio Rolli, our bassist in the spotlight for March 30th, 2010.
Bio:
Maurizio Rolli is a graduate in double bass and jazz music studies. He is currently teaching electric bass and double bass as well as jazz harmony studies at the Accademia Musicale Pescarese in Pescara, Italy. He has worked with: Jim Hall, Mike Stern,Peter Erskine, Bob Mintzer, Alex Acuña, Hiram Bullock,Michael Manring, Andy Timmons, Otmaro Ruiz, Scott Colley, Diane Shuur, Danny Gottlieb,Bob Sheppard, Bob Franceschini, Enrico Pieranunzi, Claude Barthelemy, Paolo Fresu, Gianluigi Trovesi, Bruno Tommaso, Paolo Damiani, Pino Minafra, Adam Makovicz, Russel Gloyd, Tino Tracanna, Pierre Favre, Michael Riessler, Bill Russo, Cameron Brown..
Maurizio is the bass player with R.A.R.E., a new quartet featuring Alex Acuña on percussion, Otmaro Ruiz on piano and Gianluca Esposito on saxes.
He is also the leader and main composer in the Rolli’s Tones Big Band, which recorded Moodswings, a tribute to the music of Jaco Pastorius with Michael Manring and Mike Stern. The CD was released in October 2001, the 50th anniversary of Jaco’s birth, and covered in Bass Player magazine and in Jazzit Magazine.
He is a consultant, endorser and agent for Fbass and Mayones (hand built electric basses), and Markbass amps. He usually represents these firms in Rimini Disma and Frankfurt Muzik Messe music fairs.
He just released Rolli’s Tones, a new CD featuring his big band with Peter Erskine, Mike Stern, Hiram Bullock and others. The CD features big band arrangements of hard rock classics by Rush, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith and more.
