Travis Larson Band with Jennifer Young: Axe To Grind

Someone recently shared this video with me of the Travis Larson Band. I wasn’t familiar with them (hey, I don’t follow guitarists all that much).

But bassist Jennifer Young really impressed me on this one. Sporting her Blue Dawn MusicMan Sterling bass, she does it all – doubling the lines, playing chords, and laying down a mean solo complete with tap and slap.

This clip is from the band’s Rate Of Change LIVE DVD.

Off to go watch some more.

  1. She sounds and looks good!

  2. Maybe she should be the front person, idk…..she’s rockin the bass!

  3. Very, very nice! Great technique, and a really nice composition! This lady can play!

  4. Wow…killer all around! Great sound on top of flawless technique and real energy. This is the real deal!

  5. Wow! She’s all that! It should be called the Jennifer Young band! Travis is boring compared to her. I think she’d be better off with a more exciting guitar player…like Steve Vai!

  6. Wow. Not much sexier than a great look female bass player.. who can play. Well. VERY well. Outstanding.

  7. Her tone…is incredible…HER Sterling tone is my fave.

Sweet! Thanks for sharing. Very solid and fun melodic rock.

Ripped off the Steve Morse Band…but quite nice nonetheless

What really impresses me is how she comes out of the solo bits and drops instantly back into the groove. Seems like a lot of really good players take their solos, pause a beat or two, and then get back to it. But she ends the fast slapping by immediately jumping back into the riff. Subtle, but all class.

  11. Luv It !!!!!!!!!! In A Big Way.

  12. She’s a beast !….and I mean that in a good way : )

  13. So fulfilling I forgot that I was listening to only a Trio. ( That’s what a clean tidy bass player does for a band (Mega Enhancement)

Very nice. I played bass for Mr Scott Bradoka in 2006. He did Similiar sounding
    Material. , also 100% instrumental
    But with full keyboards
Mr Eric Bazzilion wrote on Scott’s Release Create your own Reality
I toured. For Scott. I am on bass in a live in his studio recording. Peace, James Kleinman
