Peter Hook and the Light Embark on North American “Substance” Tour
Peter Hook and the Light are returning to North America this Fall to perform the works of Joy Division and New Order. The trek will have the bassist revisit his former bands by performing Joy Division and New Order’s compilation albums Substance live, sequentially and in their entireties.
“Released in August 1987, New Order’s Substance was originally conceived as a way for Factory Records boss, Tony Wilson, to play the New Order singles on the CD player of his new Jaguar car,” the band writes. “Substance became the best selling New Order album ever upon its release, the double LP going on to sell 2 million copies in America alone. Released the following year in July 1988, Joy Division’s Substance features all the singles which did not appear on the albums such as ‘Transmission’, ‘Komakino’, ‘Love Will Tear Us Apart’ and ‘Atmosphere’, as well as their b-sides, tracks from their EP ‘An Ideal For Living’ and the Factory Records sampler.”
Hook is joined on the road by his son Jack Bates, who also shares bass duties. The first leg of the tour starts September 22nd in New York City and heads to Los Angeles, California and San Antonio, Texas. It picks back up on October 27th at St. Andrews Hall in Detroit, Michigan before covering much of the U.S. and parts of Canada through November.
