Creative Bass Lines: Increasing Fingerboard Knowledge – Part 1: Triad Visualization

This column finds us looking not at bass line creation, but some solid foundation ideas that help to increase knowledge of the fingerboard. We are going to start with some easy stuff and ramp up over the next few installments!

The concepts in the video are a good place to start. There’s no transcription, as I want you to work directly on the bass without worrying about sheet music for this segment.

Also, practice the triad ideas SLOWLY. Take the time to ensure you know without a doubt what each note is AS you play it, not afterward. This helps one become confident playing over the entire fingerboard, regardless of position.

As always, you can check out rufusphilpot.com for more info and if you have any questions. Keep your eye out for the next column – it’s coming up soon!
