Hopla Loon: Jurjuna Minor
Every time I get an email from Pangiotis Andreou, I know I’m about to hear some amazing music. He’s a master of so many styles and has the kind of control that lets him speak through his bass.
Andreou shared a video his latest project, Hopla Loon, which features cool instrumentation: bass, piano, drums, electric lafta (a traditional instrument from Istanbul), and ney (a flute featured in Middle Eastern music). “Jurjuna Minor” blends all of the voices beautifully with the bassist supporting the song with a huge octaver tone. Andreou also helps to expand on his bandmates’ dynamics with driving bass lines as they build the song. By the end, he’s literally jumping out of his seat.
