Top 10: The Most Watched Bass Videos (July 2024)
Happy Friday. Here’s a playlist to get you through the end of the week – aka the top 10 reader-favorite bass videos of the month.
1. Weather Report: Live in Juan-les-Pins, Antibes, France (July 15, 1979)
The Jaco Pastorius Archive has another gem for us. Recorded 45 years ago this month, here’s Weather Report’s concert in Juan-les-Pins, Antibes, France.
2. Julia Hofer: “Heaven” Bass Playthrough
Julia Hofer is getting down with some funky slap bass on Lenny Kravitz’s “Heaven.”
3. Vulfpeck: Super Bock Super Rock Festival (Full Concert)
Vulfpeck took the stage at the Super Bock Super Rock Festival in Lisbon on July 20th. Joe Dart and the gang keep the crowd going with their hour-long performance.
4. Nate Navarro: Battle of the Bass Techniques (Fingerstyle vs. Pick vs. Slap)
Nate Navarro started the description of this video with “Let’s settle this once and for all.” Nate covers fingerstyle, pick, and slap bass, and of course, we dig it all.
5. MonoNeon: Live at North Sea Jazz 2023
I just discovered this performance by MonoNeon at North Sea Jazz 2023, and I’m glad I did. Here’s 25+ minutes of funky, smooth goodness for you.
6. Meshell Ndegeocello: Love
Meshell Ndegeocello dropped an exciting new video today. “Love” is the second song to be released from her upcoming album, “No More Water: The Gospel Of James Baldwin.”
7. Juliaplaysgroove: Good Luck, Babe! (Bass Playthrough)
Juliaplaysgroove broke out the fretless bass (“to enhance the 80s vibe of the song”) on Chappell Roan’s “Good Luck, Babe!”
8. Emmet Cohen Trio with Cyrille Aimée: La Vie en Rose
This amount of joy in this video is almost too much to handle. The Emmet Cohen trio and the amazing Cyrille Aimée take the beautiful ballad “La Vie en Rose” and liven it up with a beat.
9. Charles Berthoud: Mission Unslappable (Mission Impossible Slap Bass)
Charles Berthoud put together another creative and entertaining video. In this one, he takes on the theme to “Mission Impossible” in a way you’d expect from the bass guru.
10. Kinga Glyk: Unfollower (Live)
I’m digging Kinga Glyk’s new album, “Real Life,” so it was cool to see her drop this live video of her band performing “Unfollower.”
