Ron Carter’s October Residency at Birdland Jazz Club is Underway

If you’re looking to see Ron Carter this month, head to Birdland in New York City. The jazz bass legend and NEA Jazz Master has started his month-long residency at the famed club. Carter will give 40 performances from October 1st to October 26th with four band contexts: his New Jazz Trio, the Foursight Quartet, his Great Big Band, and in duo with pianist Bill Charlap.
Each group will take a week of performances, beginning with the New Jazz Trio, which takes the place of his Golden Striker Trio after guitarist Russell Malone passed away. Carter is joined again by pianist Donald Vega, and saxophonist Donald Harrison fills out the group.
“We’ll be finding the notes there with Russell Malone in our hearts,” Carter shared in a statement.
Carter will perform at Birdland every Tuesday through Saturday in October, with two sets per night. For anyone who can’t make it to New York City, the club will live stream every Thursday show at 7 p.m. via Veeps.
