Verdine White’s Single “Superman” Honors Maurice White’s Legacy in Emotional Tribute

Bass icon Verdine White of Earth, Wind & Fire has paid tribute to his late brother and bandmate Maurice with a new solo song. “Superman,” released on Maurice’s 83rd birthday, marks Verdine’s first time singing solo.
“Remembering my brother and mentor Maurice White on his birthday with love,” he wrote on Instagram. “He was my ‘Superman.’ This song and video is my gift to him … and to you. Available today on all music platforms. Join me in celebrating Maurice.”
Verdine and Maurice White founded Earth, Wind & Fire in 1969 and went on to shape R&B for the decade with hits like “September,” “Shining Star,” “That’s the Way of the World,” “Reasons,” and more. Maurice passed away in 2016 from the effects of Parkinson’s disease.
“Superman” is streaming now on Apple Music, Amazon Music, and more.
