Rare Jazz Gem: John Patitucci Shines in Stunning Remaster of 1992 Chick Corea Akoustic Band “Tumba” Live

Here’s one you don’t want to miss.

A newly remastered video has surfaced featuring the Chick Corea Akoustic Band live at the Blue Note Tokyo in 1992, performing “Tumba.” The lineup is top-tier: Chick Corea on piano, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, and John Patitucci on his 6-string Yamaha bass.

Patitucci is in incredible form here, delivering melodic lines, deep groove, and those signature flourishes that made him such an essential voice in Corea’s bands. The interplay between the three is a reminder of just how dynamic and conversational a trio can be.

The remaster gives us the best possible look at this historic performance. If you’re a fan of Patitucci (and I know many of you are), this one’s worth sitting down for.
