Deep Energy Orchestra Unites Cultures and Virtuosos on “The Science of Sound”

The genre-bending Deep Energy Orchestra has announced its third album, The Science of Sound, and today we’re sharing the news with an exclusive video for their first single. The band, led by bassist Jason Everett, blends elements of Indian classical rhythms, prog rock, jazz, funk, and even orchestral textures.
The group’s insane lineup brings together artists from wide-ranging styles. The Science of Sound has a core roster of Everett with violinist Joe Deninzon (Kansas), keyboardist/drummer Gary Husband (John McLaughlin, Allan Holdsworth), Warr guitarist Trey Gunn (King Crimson), keyboardist Adam Holzman (Miles DAvis, Steven Wilson), and percussionist V. Selvaganesh (Shakti, Masters of Percussion). Additional contributors include Mark Lettieri (Snarky Puppy), U. Rajesh, Mahesh Vinayakram, Radhika Iyer, John Wubbenhorst, Eric “Doc” Smith, and a full string section featuring violin, viola, and cello.
“Deep Energy Orchestra embodies the influences of Mahavishnu Orchestra, Shakti, and a wide array of jazz/rock fusion and Middle Eastern influences,” Deninzon says. “Music that has influenced me immensely and always gives me a dopamine rush when I play it. It’s an honor to be a part of this beautiful project with such world-class musicians!”
The album features eight compositions, six of which were written by Everett. Each track continues to explore the rhythmic and melodic possibilities of the ensemble’s global sound.
“The Science of Sound is about exploring how sound can communicate across genres, cultures, and traditions,” says Everett. “It’s a collaborative work that honors the strengths of every artist involved, while serving a larger musical vision.”
