Weekly Top 10: Zach Cooper’s Bass Rig, Chris Seldon’s Scout 434, and More
Welcome back to No Treble’s weekly round of the best bass world. The gear lust was hitting hard this week with our most-read story being our Bass of the Week: Chris Seldon’s Scout 434. Its burst finish and double-bound body make for pure eye candy, while the big Turner “Gordo Duo” pickup makes it sound just as sweet. Turner says the pickup is like a cross between a Darkstar and a Rickenbacker 4001/3 bridge pickup.
Jody and Marc caught up with Coheed and Cambria bassist Zach Cooper during a tour stop in Chicago, where he gave them the full scoop on his gear. “Zach’s tone hits hard. It’s punchy, it’s dirty, it’s tight. It’s the kind of setup that does exactly what it needs to without overthinking it. Just the way we like it,” Jody says. Be sure to watch to find out how he gets his monstrous tone.
Ibanez unveiled the EHB600 series basses, which pare features down to make it the lowest-priced version of the headless design. Available in four and five-string models, the EHB600 basses come in Purist Blue Matte, Walnut Flat, and Charred Champagne Burst Matte finishes.
Other news includes Warwick’s pedalboard-mounted micro bass amps, the Trickfish Bullhead Mini 500C combo amp, a rare 1996 Pinkpop performance from the legendary band, a Pantera-influenced exercise, and more. Scroll on to get all caught up.
