Rush Returns — Plus New Basses from Sébastien Gavet and Schecter in This Week’s Top 10
This week’s top story, of course, was the news that Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson announced they would be reuniting to tour as Rush in 2026. The band will fill out the trio format with drummer Anika Nilles stepping in for the late Neil Peart, and Lee even suggested they may add a dedicated keyboard player to free him up to focus on bass. See below for more details.
However, that wasn’t the only exciting news for bassists. We shared several new basses, including the Mantispa Bass that Sebastian Gavet debuted at Guitar Summit 2025. The unique bass featured a foldable design and sleek lines, making it a modern masterpiece. Schecter teamed up with Guitar Center to unveil the SC-6 six-string bass, featuring the company’s Diamond 7ST active bass pickups and an 18-volt 3-band EQ.
Ryan Madora’s latest Keep It Groovy column focused on walking bass for beginners with a great point on practicing the circle of fourths rather than the circle of fifths. The movement mirrors the natural layout of our strings, and it’s the most common harmonic motion in jazz, blues, and funk.
