The Steve Morse Band Shares “Triangulation,” With Dave LaRue Delivering a Standout Bass Performance

The Steve Morse Band just released a new video for “Triangulation,” and it is a good one for bass fans. If you follow Dave LaRue, you will enjoy this. The tune leans into the band’s progressive rock roots with tight unison lines, sharp rhythmic turns, and plenty of fire from Morse and Petrucci. Through all of it, LaRue holds everything together while still adding his own spark.

He is playing his Music Man Bongo in the video, and the tone fits him perfectly. It is punchy, clear, and present in the mix without ever getting harsh. He moves easily between solid groove work and the small, tasteful runs he likes to drop in when the harmony opens up.

It feels like the whole band is enjoying the chance to stretch out a bit, and Dave is right in the middle of it. If you enjoy progressive rock bass playing or just want to hear a Bongo in the hands of someone who really knows how to make it sing, this one is worth checking out.
