Fresh Drop: Oz Noy and Joe Bonamassa Revisit John Coltrane’s “Equinox” with Will Lee on Bass
Oz Noy just shared a new live clip, and it is a cool one. He teams up with Joe Bonamassa for a moody take on John Coltrane’s “Equinox”, captured live at The Bitter End in New York. It is relaxed, spacious, and very much about feel with lots of fireworks.
The real glue here is Will Lee. Will sits right in the pocket and lets the tune breathe. Will is playing his signature Sadowsky bass through a Fuchs bass head and a Hartke stack. The tone is warm and clear, with just enough weight to keep everything grounded.
Bonamassa appears to be playing through a Dumble amp, bringing a thick, vocal sound to his lines, while Noy stretches out with his usual mix of taste and curiosity. It is a respectful nod to John Coltrane that still feels loose and with their own flavor.
