Early last month, Flea shook the music world by announcing his debut album with its first track, “A Plea.” Though details have been few, the Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist has revealed the title, a new track, and an intimate tour to suport it.

Honora will drop on March 27th on Nonesuch Records, who explain that it returns him to his first musical loves: jazz and trumpet. He plays the horn and bass throughout the album, with Anna Butterss also contributing to the low end. Other band members include producer and saxophonist Josh Johnson, guitarist Jeff Parker, and drummer Deantoni Parks. Legendary songwriter Nick Cave appears on vocals as well as Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, who appears on the new single, “Traffic Lights.”

Yorke and Flea previously played together in a band called Atoms for Peace.

“Deantoni and I played what became ‘Traffic Lights’ the first day,” Flea says. “Something about it reminded me of Atoms for Peace, so I sent it to Thom. Just knowing him, I thought it would be a rhythm and a sensibility that he would relate to. And I was right, he did. With a gorgeous melody and the words, you know, about living in the ‘upside down’ and how do you make sense of things when we’re getting all this fake shit and real shit? Everyone has their ways of dealing with the world. But he’s just the warmest, free flowing, jamming motherf*cker.”

With Honora hitting on March 27th, Flea has assembled the Honora Band (including Butterss) to take it on the road. The tour begins in Chicago, Illinois on May 7th at Thalia Hall. Over the month, they’ll criss-cross the United States and Canada before heading to Europe for a handful of dates. The final concert on the books is May 28th in Paris, France.

Honora will be available in a limited Sky-Blue vinyl set, a standard black vinyl 2LP set, CD, and as a digital download. You can pre-order it now via Nonesuch Records.
