Watch Aerosmith Perform “Crazy” Live for the First Time in 1994

It is always fun to catch a big song at the moment it is still brand new. This clip captures Aerosmith performing “Crazy” live for the very first time during their 1994 European run on the Get a Grip tour. The performance was filmed for the Dutch music show Veronica’s Mega Rock Experience.

At the time, “Crazy” had not yet become the massive hit most of us know. Watching the band play it here feels like witnessing a song still finding its footing onstage. Steven Tyler leans into the vocal phrasing while Joe Perry and Brad Whitford build the bluesy guitar layers around him.

Tom Hamilton keeps everything grounded. He appears to be playing a Yamaha five string through a Hartke rig, laying down a steady pocket. His understated groove gives the tune its weight while the arrangement opens up around the vocal and guitars.  Of course, “Crazy” would soon become one of the biggest songs from Get a Grip, helped along by the iconic music video featuring Liv Tyler and Alicia Silverstone. But in this moment, it is simply Aerosmith introducing a brand new song to a live audience.

That makes this performance a cool little piece of rock history.
