Deep Purple Releases “NOW What?!”

Deep Purple: NOW What?!It’s been forty-five years since Deep Purple released their debut album, Shades of Deep Purple. In that time, the group has gone through numerous lineups and countless trials and tribulations. After it all they’re ready for more with their 19th studio album, NOW What?!, an 11-track effort of brand new material.

The band’s current lineup includes three classic lineup members – singer Ian Gillan, drummer Ian Paice and bassist Roger Glover – as well as guitarist Steve Morse and keyboardist Don Airey. Glover kept a diary of the album’s progress, which was recorded between July and October 2012 in Nashville, Tennesee. Much of the bass work is what he recorded live.

“Bass day,” he wrote. “We try [Producer Bob Ezrin]’s old Ampeg it sounds great. I go in at eleven and work on ‘Bubble’, ‘Pint’, ‘It’ll Be Me’, ‘Weirdistan’. For the most part, what I played live is what we use, just dropping details in.”

NOW What?! is available on CD, vinyl and digital formats (iTunes and Amazon MP3).
