AC Guitars Introduces Krell E Type Single Cut Bass
Scottish bass company AC Guitars has unveiled the Krell E Type singlecut model, a riff on company’s Krell bass. Designed with Ewan Beck, the bass is denoted by a swamp ash body topped with a flame maple top and a Faded Black finish.
The bass is built with bolt-on construction with a 5-piece purpleheart, wenge, and maple neck topped with a flat Pau Ferro fingerboard. Its neck has a standard dual action trussrod but is also carbon reinforced.
Beck and luthier Alan Cringean decided on ACG’s own pickups with an RFB Music Man-style humbucker in the bridge position and a PB split coil pickup in the neck position. They’re matched with an ACG DFM 4K/AP preamp, which is packed with controls. Stack 1 controls the volume and pickup blend. Stack 2 has a lowpass filter for the neck pickup while the lower ring acts as a filter frequency and the upper ring controls the overshot peak. It also has a push/pull low mid boost with two internally selectable frequencies and gain controls. Stack 3 is a lowpass filter for the bridge pickup and has a push/pull boost or high mid-boost, which is also internally selectable. The final knob is a single passive tone control that can be pushed or pulled to select active or passive modes.
The AC Guitars Krell E Type Single Cut bass is handmade in Scotland and has a base price of $2,507.
