Rufus Reid to headline CCM Jazz Showcase

Rufus ReidJazz bassist Rufus Reid is joining the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music faculty’s Jazztet and the university’s 18-piece student Jazz Ensemble this weekend for a night of standards and original works.

The performance takes place this Sunday, May 31 at 7 p.m. in the Corbett Auditorium, University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

“Rufus Reid has been a guiding force in jazz for decades as a recording artist, composer and educator,” said Rick VanMatre, director of CCM’s jazz studies program. “He has represented the U.S. to the world as an emissary of the highest artistic level. To have him perform side-by-side with our students will be a tremendous honor for them. Sparks will fly!”

Reid is an educator himself, having authored The Evolving Bassist in 1974, still a popular bass method book today.

General admission is $10. UC students are free, non-UC students get in for $5.
