D’arcy (Ex-Smashing Pumpkins) on air interview
Ex-Smashing Pumpkins bassist D’arcy Wretzky randomly dialed in to Q101 in Chicago. The “unprompted and unplanned” phone conversation between D’arcy and DJ Ryan Manno can be heard unedited on Manno’s blog. D’arcy left the Smashing Pumpkins 10 years ago and has not done many interviews since.
When Manno asked “What are you doing with your life?” she talked about living on a farm in Michigan with her fiance and how the work has consumed her.
His follow-up asking if she was creating any new music her response was: “Any musician is like ‘You can only push it down for so long, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to [do it again]… Singing was my first love, but twice a year I get laryngitis and I lose my voice completely. I don’t know why. But the stress, everything … the business is just nasty.”
