Meet Marco Rodi, our bassist in the spotlight for January 19, 2010.

Marco Rodi

Bio:

My name is Marco Rodi and I’m a solo bassist from Montreal Quebec. I won several artistic competitions here in Montreal like: Cegep en spectacle, UniversitĂ© en spectacle, where I had 15 minutes to show the solo bass potential onstage. I was representing my country, Canada, as a solo bassist at the international music festival in France, in 2005.

I released my first solo bass album, Edounardo, in 2006, and I’m currently mastering the first full-length CD with my funky band “Metazon”.

I always try to play without thinking too much, to get my purest and honest emotions coming out if this 4 string instrument.

Why I play the bass:

I was watching TV when I was 15 years old and I came up with a special MTV concert of a band called Red Hot Chili Peppers. I saw their bassist, Flea, completely naked onstage and rock the hell out of his bass. I thought to myself: “Man, that seems so cool to play like that!!” I couldn’t believe the pure soul/funk groove this band was creating. That special moment changed my life. I WANTED to play bass.

My bass superpower/claim to fame

I recently played at the Annual Engineer Ceremony where all the engineer graduates receive their ring. I did a 30 minute solo bass performance in front of 4,000 people at salle Wilfrid Pelletier in Montreal, the same place where Jaco Pastorius played at the Montreal Jazz Festival!

My influences

Flea, Victor Wooten, Michael Manring, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix
