RIP Harold Cowart

Bassist Harold Cowart died on June 27th in his home. He was 66.

Cowart had an impressive musical history. He created one of the most memorable bass lines around, playing on “Judy In Disguise (With Glasses)” with John Fred and His Playboy Band. The song was a Number 1 hit for 1968 in the USA and many other countries.

Cowart’s session work included other chart toppers such as Brook Benton’s “Rainy Night in Georgia,” Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s “Islands in the Stream,” Barbra Streisand’s “Guilty,” Frankie Valli’s “Grease” and Jay Ferguson’s “Thunder Island.” He also played and recorded with the Bee Gees.

In his later years Cowart operated Bluff Road Recording where he produced a wide range of artists including Louisiana Boys, New Orleans trumpeter Al Hirt, and Bleed.
