Geezer Butler Speaks on Dio Tribute Performance
The members of Heaven & Hell will remember their late singer, Ronnie James Dio, with a performance at the High Voltage Festival in London on July 24th.
The one-off show will celebrate Dio’s life, which was cut short by cancer earlier this year. Glenn Hughes and Jorn Lande, who both had ties to Dio, will fill the singer’s shoes. The event will benefit the Ronnie James Dio “Stand Up And Shout” Cancer Fund.
Bassist Geezer Butler said he will have a hard time playing the gig.
“It’s gonna be very emotional doing this set with different singers, and it will be very strange being on stage without Ronnie,” he told Classic Rock. “But Wendy Dio told us that, if he could, then Ronnie would certainly have given this his blessing.”
Butler also expressed it would be the end of the band’s music.
“What we’ll do is a typical Heaven & Hell set as we’ve been touring with it recently. But it’s the only time we’ll do this. It won’t happen again.”
