The Real History of Rush

The guys from Rush are so cool. In addition to their amazing musicianship, they’re really funny. And pretty good actors.

This of course comes from the band’s Time Machine 2011 – Live in Cleveland DVD.

We may be partial, but we like Geddy Lee’s character best.

  1. I loved the Closer To The Heart segment on the closing credits! By the way, is it just me, or does Neil Peart look like Tom Hanks in Green Mile?

  2. So cool to have seen this live.

  3. Ive never seen so many air drummers at a gig.

  4. wish I was there. Geddy Lee still rocks! and those drums were insane!

  5. Very criative, long live Rush.

  6. Man, what a wall of sound, can only imagine what it was like to be there live.

  7. That was awesome. I wish there were more acts with the level of showmanship these guys have. It’s experiences like this that make live events so freaking awesome.

  8. Brings back so many memories. Alex Lifeson made me go out and buy my first Gibson. Neil Peart continues to inspire me on drum. Geddy on bass.

  9. I saw/heard this at Malmø Arena in Sweden, the 8.th of May 2011 – and it was freaking awesome!
When experiencing these 3 chaps live, you’re amazed the band formed as far back as 1968. At an age approaching 60 they still are full of energy and radiating a mere enthusiastic joyfulness performing their show. And a show is exactly what they deliver – tight musical standard as high as it gets – 3 very energetic “old men” still filled with joy playing their music (Geddy Lee was jumping around the stage as a rabit on Duracell batteries ;-D) – A spectacular stage setup with gear and instruments made especially for the tour – racks looking like washing-machines/dryers (Time machines) with changing “stuff” tumbling around inside – Geddy Lee’s bass gear producing endless rows of sausages ending up in a big bowl (ha ha – don’t ask). Several very funny videos (like the one above) as part of the show – documenting the RUSH guys as being “down to earth” unceremonious self-ironic fellows with a great sense of humor!
My only complaint – they played damn loud!
The night before I heard Roger Waters, The Wall – at the Copenhagen Stadium (Parken) in Denmark – without having to use protective earmuffs – and they were needed for the RUSH concert! Otherwise – just GREAT!
Need I mention that hearing the complete “Moving Pictures” – album (played as a whole) as part of the concert – didn’t make the experience any less awesome! ;-)

  10. Saw this intro and this show live in Quebec city… outdoors show, about 80 000 people, front line… memorable!

Nobody makes as much fun of Rush as Rush does!! So great to see such a big name band not take themselves too seriously.
