Radial Engineering Introduces StageBug SB-2 Passive DI

Radial Engineering StageBug SB-2 Passive DIRadial Engineering has introduced the StageBug SB-2 Passive DI, which they say suits well to electric bass, acoustic guitar, and keyboards. The new, compact direct box was designed in response to the trend of reducing gear size for traveling purposes and measures at 2? wide and 3.5? deep.

The SB-2 revolves around a custom made Eclipse ET-DB3 transformer, which performs the impedance matching and signal balancing. Other features include 1/4? input and thru-put, an XLR output, and a 180° polarity reverse switch that toggles pins 2 and 3 of the XLR to adapt to older gear.

The Radial Engineering StageBug SB-2 Passive DI is set to ship in February with a retail price of $80. For more, check out the Radial Engineering website.

  1. I’ve needed a good DI….who knows, might get this…..or might suck it up and spend the money on a sansamp.

  2. You know your’s a bassist when you get legitimately excited over a passive DI box. If I get a chance to build the rig I’m wanting to this will be part of it.

I have this on my pedal board, and honestly, the sb-2 sounds even better than the DI out of my GK 700 RBII amp head. Definitely worth it!

  3. I have an older Radial DI in my rig that consistently gets good comments from sound guys for transparency and fidelity. They usually bring a DI over at the start of the gig…see the one in my rig and toss theirs aside. I would definitely buy this if I was building a new rack or if the current one crapped out (not very likely). I’ve had it velcro’d in place for over 10 years with not one problem. It gets a mix of my keys and bass output from my mixer to send to the house, and handles both really well with what seems like unlimited overhead.

    • also I would just add that having your own DI is one of the best ways to assure that “your sound” makes it all the way to the board. That or having your own mic if you go that route. I have a nice set of Mics too just in case the sound guy really prefers that.

  4. I use Radial exclusively for direct inject. Disclosure – No endorsements.
